Pangot is a small Himalayan village situated 15 kilometers from Nainital, a very quaint settlement of the local Kumaoni hill folk. The drive takes only 25 minutes to get there from Nainital. The entire drive is through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury. These is the habitat for excellent bird watching. One can opt for numerous short treks in this area.

The Himalayan bird species seen along the way can be lammergeier, Himalayan griffon, mountain-hawk eagle, blue-winged minla, spotted & slaty-backed forktail, a large variety of woodpekers including the beautiful rufous-bellied woodpecker, rufous-bellied niltava, pheasants such as khalij, cheer & koklas, variety of thrushes etc. Almost 300 bird species have been recorded at Pangot and surrounding areas.

The numerous perennial & seasonal creeks are home to an amazing variety of flora and fauna including the leopard, yellow-throated Himalayan marten, Himalayan palm civet, ghoral, barking deer, sambhar, wild boar, yellow-bellied Himalayan weasel, Himalayan langur, red fox, Indian jackal etc.
